St Sampson village, Cornwall
St Sampson, (Cornish: Goelnans), is more commonly known as Golant (Cornish: Lannworon). The picturesque village lies in the parish of the same name and is situated on the west bank of River Fowey river. The area now a mecca for pleasure craft anfd the yachting fraternity.
The small church dedicated is to St Sampson. Nearby lies Castle Dore, believed to be where King Mark of Cornwall had his court.
Music lovers may have heard of Golant. Since 1974, it has been home to 'Sawmill Studios', housed in a 17th century water mill. It is set in its own tidal creek and is only accessible by boat. Sawmills boasts one of the most picturesque and atmospheric locations for a recording studio anywhere in the world. Recent visitors include Oasis, New Model Army, Ocean Colour Scene and the Wire Daisies.
