Penberthy Crofts Mine, including Wheal Fancy is located about threequarters of a mile north of St. Hilary in Penwith Mining District. It lies adjacent to Wheal Friendship Mine.

The mine worked a number of lodes including Main Lode, Longclose, Canart Lode, King's Lode, Wheal Fancy Lode and Cock's Lode. These were serviced by over 20 shafts. The main shafts being No.1 Shaft, No.2 Shaft, Hett's Engine Shaft, No.4 Shaft (also known as Footway Shaft), No.5 Shaft and No.6 Shaft.

Production figures from Penberthy Crofts Mine for the years 1818, 1824 and between 1881 and 1883 was 8,700 tons of 7% copper ore, 60 tons of black tin and 1.25 tons of 60% lead.

The sett has been a fine source of rare copper, lead and iron arsenate minerals such as bayldonite, jeanbandyite, natanite and segnitite. However, the land is owned by the St. Aubyn Estate and permission for site visits must be made prior to any visit.
