Lostwithiel Dickensian Evening
13th December
On a cold, dark Thursday evening in mid December, Lostwithiel lights up with its Dickensian Evening. The ever popular festive event has been running for many years. The streets are filled with crowds who come to enjoy the old fashioned traditional Christmas experience.
A lantern parade launches the event at 6pm led by 'reindeer' alpacas, with choirs, bands and musicians performing throughout the evening.
Shops in the centre of town are open late and shopkeepers dress up in Victorian garb. In fact lots of people get in the spirit and you'll see stallholders, performers and townspeople kitted out in old fashioned costumes. Craft and gift stalls can be found in the Church Rooms and for children there's an old fashioned merry-go-round fairground ride and a traditional Santa's grotto.
There's plenty of refreshments with restaurants and cafes open all night and hot food from street vendors. Of course there's lashings of mulled wine or mulled cider available too.
Come and enjoy a truly magical evening with us in Lostwithiel!

Christmas comes early to Lostwithiel with the annual Lostwithiel Dickensian Evening on Thursday 13th December, 6pm - 9pm.
This is one of the busiest and jolliest nights of the year in Lostwithiel and this year's programme of events pulls out all the stops.
A fabulous lantern parade through the streets launches the event which will be led by 'reindeer' alpacas, which will pass through the Christmas tree-lit and beautifully decorated streets of Lostwithiel.
There will be bands playing, choirs singing and a Church concert. All part of an evening of music, performance and storytelling throughout the town.
Christmas shopping becomes a joy with arts and craft stalls in the Church Rooms, with late night openings in shops and eateries all over town where traders dressed in traditional Dickensian costumes will welcome you in for a warming cup of cheer.
There will be no shortage of Christmas food and drink with a variety of festive options available both from stalls and businesses around the town, so there's no need to eat before you set out. Colourful advent windows add to the atmosphere and no Dickensian Evening would be complete without Santa himself, who will be getting in practice for his big day. There will also be an old children's fashioned merry-go-round to add to the fun.
Arrive early if driving but do try and come by train if possible. We hope you can come along to join us for a spectacularly festive evening!
