Cornwall Air Ambulance Runway Runaround 2018

22nd September

What better way to fundraise that to take part in a fun run around a restricted military airbase at night! Date: Saturday 22nd September

Cornwall Air Ambulance Runway Runaround 2018

Registration is now live for Cornwall Air Ambulance's Runway Runaround, a charity 10km fun run through a restricted military base at night.

Times: Registration opens at 3:30pm with the 5k starting at 5pm and the 10k starting at 8:30pm.
Location: RAF St Mawgan, Newquay, TR8 4HP
Cost: £12 per child or £23-£25 per adult.

Due to popular demand the charity has now added a 5km walk/run on the same day starting at 5pm.

Participants of both the 5km and 10km will receive special access to RAF St Mawgan, near Newquay, to embark on a charity run past Cold War bomb shelters, vintage aircraft hangars and along the airbase's runway.

The event is being staged to raise money for Cornwall Air Ambulance's £2.5m New Heli Appeal, a two-year fundraising campaign to bring a next generation air ambulance helicopter to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly by April 2020.

It has been five years since Cornwall Air Ambulance last staged a Runway Runaround. The last event held in 2013 was a big success and the charity is determined to bring it back with a bang in 2018.

Sarah Mitchell, Fundraising Officer at Cornwall Air Ambulance, said: 'This has got to be Cornwall's quirkiest charity run, with the unique experience of running along a usually restricted military runway at night. It's something very different which we are sure will attract people looking to do a charity run with a twist'.

'At 10km long, the night run is suitable for anyone who wants to take part. Whatever your ability, you can achieve your goal and complete the run motivated by the knowledge that you are helping to save lives in Cornwall. It is sure to be an unforgettable night'.

'Our thanks go to RAF St Mawgan, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary and 100 years of the Royal Air Force, for kindly supporting the New Heli Appeal through this event'.

The Runway Runaround will take place on Saturday 22 September 2018, so there is plenty of time to get fit and ready. Runners will be encouraged to wear glow sticks which will be available to buy on the night. There will also be entertainment from the Blue Angels and refreshments.

As a charity, Cornwall Air Ambulance receives no government or lottery funding towards its running costs and instead relies on donations from the people of Cornwall and beyond to keep flying and saving lives.

All money raised from the Runway Runaround will be put towards the New Heli Appeal, which aims to bring a faster, more powerful and better equipped helicopter to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to save more time and more lives for the next 20 years.
