Wherrytown Beach, Newlyn
Newlyn is probably best known for being a fishing port and harbour. The town, has now been swallowed up by the southwestward expansion of Penzance so that it has effectively become a suburb.
The beach at Newlyn, more correctly called Wherrytown Beach, runs northeast from the harbour passing Larrigan Rocks and Wherry Rocks as far as the Jubilee Swimming Pool and Memorial on Battery Rocks. It consists largely of large rounded pebbles with a smattering of grey sand at the water's edge. At its southern end it is largely overshadowed by the North Pier of Newlyn harbour.
Due to its proximity to the town all amenities are relatively close by. Visitors wanting a finer sandy beach would be advised to head east to Longrock and Marazion.
Areas of interest nearby include fine walks south and west along the coast path to the fishing villages of Mousehole and Lamorna Cove ; St. Michael's Mount and causeway at Marazion; Trengwainton Gardens; Morrab Gardens; Trereife House and Gardens. Inland, the moorland and scenery of Penwith are well worth a visit.
