Vault

Vault beach, Cornwall

Vault Beach lies on the South coast of Cornwall on the eastern flank of the striking Dodman Point near Gorran Haven and St. Austell.

Southeast-facing, Vault Beach is seldom very busy as there are no facilities and access is down a steep path. There are no toilets at Vault or in the hamlet of Lamledra, the nearest public conveniences are about a mile away at Gorran Haven.

The beach is usually overlooked in favour of Mevagissey, Gorran Haven and the beaches of the Roseland Peninsula, such as Porthluney Cove known to most people as 'Caerhays Castle beach'.

From a distance the crescent-shaped beach looks to be composed of greyish sand, but actually consists of fine shingle with a little sand. Swimming can be good here and is best on a rising tide. Care should be taken not to stray too far from the coast in case of offshore currents.

The are some excellent walks around the area especially west to Dodman Point and Hallane. To the north lies Gorran Haven and Mevagissey.

Please be aware that the far (southwestern) end of the beach, nearest Dodman Point, is an unofficial naturist beach so please bear this in mind if visiting.
