Town Beach, St. Mary's

Town Beach, St. Mary's beach, Cornwall

Located in Hugh Town, Isles of Scilly, the beach is quite popular with residents and visitors alike.

Town Beach is a north facing crescent of sand stretching from the Old Quay near Rat Island, in the west, where the Scillonian Ferry disembarks, to the rocks of Carn Thomas, with its Lifeboat station in the east.

Boat trips serving the other islands or simply pleasure boats run from the Quay at the western end of the beach.

All the usual amenities lie behind the beach including the Mermaid and Atlantic Hotel public houses, a small supermarket, a bank and a number of souvenir shops for tourists.

There are several restaurants and cafés within easy walking distance and the Isles of Scilly Museum lies on Church Street behind Lower Strand.

The island of St. Mary's offers a wide range of things to do that belies the island's small size. There are some fine coastal walks southwest around 'The Garrison' to Porthcressa and on to the lighthouse at Peninnis Head or a walk along the west coast to the north of the island with its more rugged, less commercial feel. Rich in stunning scenery and full of history there really is something to fulfill most interests.
