Praa Sands

Praa Sands beach, Cornwall

Pronounced either as 'Prah Sands' or more commonly as 'Pray Sands' this mile long beach of golden sand lies on the South Coast of Cornwall approximately halfway between Penzance and Helston. Praa Sands, is south west facing and is a popular 'beaching' destination in the summer months.

Situated to the south of the A394 Helston to Penzance road, The beach is sheltered to the west by Cudden Point and to the east by Trewavas Head.

There are some excellent walks along the South West Coast Path west towards Prussia Cove, Cudden Point and ultimately Marazion or east passing Rinsey (Porthcew), Trewavas Head with its ruined mine stacks and ultimately Porthleven.

Praa Sands is popular with families and surfers. There are the usual facilities and parking right behind the beach. RNLI lifeguard's patrol the beach daily from 5th May to 30th September, Easter bank holiday and also weekends in April. Bathing should only occur when so advised by the lifeguards as there can be strong undercurrents at certain stages of the tide. It is also unwise to sit directly below the cliffs, due to the risk of falling rocks.

There is a seasonal dog ban from Easter Day to October 1st (7am to 7pm).
