Porth Mellon, sometimes written Porthmellon, is situated on the west coast of St. Mary's, Isles of Scilly.
Located right in the heart of the main island's settlement of Hugh Town, and within easy walking distance of the ferry terminus at Rat Island, Porth Mellon is a fine northwest facing sandy beach popular with windsurfers and sailing enthusiasts.
As with many other beaches on Scilly, the sand is very, very pale, almost white in character and is backed by low dunes.
Porthmellon can be prone to seaweed at certain times.
Ramblers will enjoy the nearby Garrison Walk to the west and also the stroll north passing Harry's Walls and Porthloo on the way to the north of the island. Here lie some great ancient monuments to explore not to mention fantastic views across the water to Samson and Tresco.
