Porth Chapel

Porth Chapel beach, Cornwall

Not to be confused with Chapel Porth on the north coast of Cornwall near St. Agnes, Porth Chapel is a south facing beach and cove of fine golden sand. In an attractive setting between granite headlands, the beach lies just west of the Minack Theatre, at Porthcurno.

The beach lies off the beaten track, about four and a half miles southeast of Land's End along the coast path and can become quite busy in high season despite not being that well known to the general tourist. Porth Chapel, sometimes written Porthchapel, is best accessed via the coast path from the car parks in Porthcurno, a very pleasurable walk in fine weather, passing through Porthgwarra en route. It is also possible to park beside St. Levan church and walk the half mile or so down to the coast.

Access to the beach is relatively difficult as it involves a scramble down from a narrow cliff path and should only be undertaken by the fittest beachgoer.

There is a seasonal dog ban at Porth Chapel from Easter to October and there are no facilities or lifeguard cover.
