Polperro lies on the south coast of Cornwall between Fowey and Looe. Polperro is a popular holiday destination and is better known as a typical quaint Cornish fishing village rather than for its beach. The small east facing beach of grey sand and shingle lies next to the western pier of the harbour and is completely covered at high tide.
Polperro, known as 'Porthpyra' in Cornish.
The beach is sheltered and due to its proximity to the village can become crowded very quickly. There are a number of rock pools on the foreshore to occupy younger members of the family and there is a man-made pool at the end of the beach in addition to the natural pool. The pier holds rescue points if required.
Swimming is possible from Polperro beach and is best undertaken on a rising high tide. It is also possible to snorkel around the narrow inlet and from Peak Rock.
Dogs are allowed on the beach. There are toilets on the northern side of the Harbour along The Warren, about 300m from the beach.
