Polpeor Cove

Polpeor Cove beach, Cornwall

A south facing very small beach situated just to the west of the famous 'Most Southerly Point in England' at Lizard Point. The beach consists of dark sand and is easly found as overlooking the cove is the old Lizard Point Lifeboat Station. The Lifeboat Station is no longer in operation and is now a heritage centre.

Swimming is not recommended here due to strong tidal currents. Refreshments are available on the clifftop above at the 'Most Southerly Cafe'. Parking is best on the green at Lizard Village; from the car park head south along the coast road towards Lizard Point. Alternatively you can park in the National Trust car park next to Lizard Lighthouse and walk down the slipway and onto the beach from there.

There are excellent walks along the coast path in both directions: To the west lies Holseer Cove, Caerthillian Cove, Pentreath Beach and ultimately the beautiful Kynance Cove, whilst to the east lies Polbream Cove, Housel Bay, Bass Point on your way north now towards Prilla Cove and the new Lizard Lifeboat Station (officially opened in May 2012) at Kilcobben Cove. Landewednack Church Cove is photogenic and well worth a visit, as is Cadgwith a little further north.
