Par Beach, St. Martin's
Par Beach, St. Martin's is situated on the south coast of St. Martin's, Isles of Scilly.
More commonly called Higher Town Beach, it is a long crescent of almost white sand, recently voted as the best beach in Britain by the Rough Guide publications.
South facing, Higher Town Beach is great for families as it has safe swimming, wonderful views, great walks and grassy areas suitable for playing hide and seek or having a picnic in.
Nearby points of interest include: St. Martin's Vineyard, Winery, Visitor Centre and Shop and The Island Bakery. Further refreshments are available at Polreath Tea Room, open April to September in Higher Town.
There are some great walks along the cliff paths west to Cruther's Point to view the remains of prehistoric Chambered Cairns or east to Chapel Down with its brightly painted daymark. Just offshore lies English Island to the southeast and the small islets of the Eastern Isles, namely Nornour, Great Ganilly, Little Ganilly and Menawethan.
