Old Town Bay

Old Town Bay lies sheltered between Peninnis Head and Tolman Point on the southeast coast of St. Mary's. Old Town lies just southwest of, and is overlooked by the buildings of the Isles of Scilly Airport. There are fine walks west around Peninnis Head to Porthcressa via Carn Lêh and Stony Porth, or inland along the Nature Trail to Rose Hill along the Lower Moors. The Old Town Inn lies on the outskirts of the settlement and is a great place to eat if in the area. It is also the base of the Scilly Folk Club. Points of interest nearby include the lighthouse and granite rock structure of Peninnis Head to the west and east over Salakee Down to Porth Hellick with its ancient cairns, fine beach and the site of the grave of Sir Cloudesley Shovell, Admiral of the Fleet who was lost with the shipwreck of HMS Association in October 1707.
