Long Rock

Long Rock beach, Cornwall

Long Rock beach lies roughly midway between Penzance and Marazion on the South coast of Cornwall. It is named after the rocks at the mid point of the three mile stretch of beach running from Eastern Green to St. Michael's Mount. The former village of Long Rock ('Carrek Hyr' in Cornish) has now been largely swallowed up by the eastern expansion of Penzance.

Long Rock Beach is bounded on the west by Eastern Green Beach and to the east by the beaches of Marazion. The beach consists of coarse golden sand with a strip of shingle and pebbles along the strand line. It is backed by a walkway stretching all the way from the car park at Penzance Railway station to Marazion Green and beach.

South-facing, it is often strewn with seaweed which rather detracts from its appeal. The eastern end of the beach is filled with the backdrop of the wonderful St. Michael's Mount.

Due to the gently shelving nature of the beach, swimming here is quite safe, but note should still be taken of any beach information boards. There is no lifeguard cover at Long Rock but the Marazion lifeguards keep an eye on the eastern end of the beach during the summer.

Parking for Long Rock is behind the beach, just west of the village. Dogs are allowed on Long Rock beach all year round.
