Gatamala Cove

Gatamala Cove beach, Cornwall. Copyright image.
Copyright © Worthing Wanderer

A small beach situated just north west of Rosemullion Head, near Falmouth on the South coast of Cornwall. The strangely named Gatamala Cove lies in a sheltered position facing northeast on the low rolling cliffs of the eastern side of the Lizard Peninsula.

It is located at Grid Reference SW792282 (Lat. 50.112804, Long. -5.088747), just south of the more popular Bream Cove and the Meudon Hotel.

The beach, like many south coast beaches in the area consists of rocks and fine shingle. It is best reached by parking in Mawnan Smith and walking east towards the coast and along the coastal footpath via Nansidwell or Treworgan.

Swimming at Gatamala Cove can be good in most weather conditions but is NOT ADVISED if there is a strong easterly breeze blowing. Snorkelling from the beach can be good, and younger members of your party will no doubt enjoy exploring the numerous rock pools at low water.

There are no facilities here, all the usual amenities are located at Maenporth (½ mile) and Mawnan Smith (1 mile) away.

Dog friendly, there are no restrictions on dogs at all.
